Sandwich Bags For Leftovers

Has your refrigerator ever been full of nothing more than a lot of leftovers waiting to be eaten, but the containers were usually bigger than the meals themselves? Look no further for freedom from wanting space. All you have to do is put those extra crumbs in sandwich bags. Some will even hold liquids unless you squish (compress) them. For those, put them at the top of the pile.

Clean Work Space

Over 10 years ago, I worked at a hospital. They made a big deal about nosocomial (spelling?) infections. Namely, the germs are everywhere, especially in a place where they take sick people. They required that all clerical employees as well as persons who handled patients wash their hands thoroughly and avoid touching the doorknobs and faucet handles directly, which is a good practice anywhere considering that germs are everywhere, including ones home. In preparing food, some food such as poultry must be separated from other foods being prepared like vegatables. The cutting board should be scalded with hot water and some sort of cleaning agent appropriate for the material used.

Frozen French Fries

For a tasty snack to warm you up before a larger meal or as an appetizer, try frozen french fries. Set your Toaster Oven to 10 minutes on Toast to defrost the fries, but not cook them. Then, lower the setting to Bake and go another 10 minutes. Be careful not to overcook them. It does happen. Watch them and learn how your Oven performs. Sometimes, cooking needs as much "tweaking" as a computer.

Pet's Eat Too

Don't forget to feed and give water to your pet. You're eating, he or she should too. Don't forget to take them out of your vehicle when you go to the store or whereever.

Spicy Cream Cheese Rice

Do you like spicy with your rice? Here's an idea: Reheat some of that leftover rice in the microwave and add a few more ingredients. You'll need 1) garlic powder or any variation, 2) Philadelphia Cream Cheese (any will do, but my mother prefers the good stuff), 3) Microwave container, 4) Tobasco Sauce (or any other such sauce. I love them all. Not good for high blood pressure, but magnificent going down your stomach). After putting the rice in the microwave long enough to get that "I've been in the refrigerator long enough to taste stale, but
I'm not really stale" feeling out of it; That's the one when it is a little too crunchy and brittle in your mouth and taste like glue. Then, mix in the other ingredients with whatever moderation you choose. It will make a tasty meal.
Bon Appetit.

Frozen Pizza Bread

You know those pizzas that they make on an 8 inch piece of 1/2" thick bread with all the 'fixins on top? Well, this
is how to prepare them in your toaster oven. Place oven on Toast, turn timer to 15 minutes if frozen. If not frozen, try 10 minutes on Toast, but after 5 minutes check up on the pizza to see that the bottom does not get over hard nor the top. That sometimes is a problem when using the Toaster Oven. If it comes out well, it should taste good. Write me how it tastes or post to the blog.

Frozen Biscuits

According to what my mother buys at the store, there are several different variations on a theme when it comes to biscuits. Essentially, this is how it works. Take the frozen biscuits, turn to Toast, set timer to 8 to 10 minutes, watch your creation after 5 minutes, and it won't hurt to poke a fork in them and feel if the fork is cold. After the first time around, lower the temperature setting and set to 10 minutes if it was done, but not as much as you would have liked. After 5 minutes, check on them so they don't get too hard. My mother has dentures and no bottom plate at the moment. The biscuits should be done and fluffy. A thing that I have noticed is that different brands of biscuits use different settings. Try using mushroom soup without the milk or water as a sauce like they do at the restaurants for morning breakfast. You could also use a microwave oven, but that's another story.

Leftover Rice Microwaved

You look in the refrigerator for something to eat. Nothing there. Suddenly, you see a clear plastic (microwaveable) container. Finally, starvation put off! You opened the lid, bend over to smell it, and think to yourself "This is leftover rice from a few days ago". Alas, it is all you have at the moment. You gather some herbs and spices. Then, microwave the rice. When out of the oven, mix in the amount of herbs and spices you want to favor your rice with, chef. Maybe, you add something extra to the meal and, presto, you have microwaved leftover rice.

Frozen Meatballs

You get them out of the freezer and you could break someone's head with them if you threw them. I have a small toaster oven that I cook these WMD's in. It measures approximately 4" x 10" inside and has 3 settings: Bake, Toast, & Broil. The counter goes to 15 minutes.

You want to thaw them out first because overheating can make them hard on the outside so that you cannot eat them and have to go to the Dentist as well. Your settings should be Toast or whatever is above the first setting and 15 minutes. This should thaw them out sufficiently to begin cooking the meat within. After the first "ping", you should lower the setting to Bake or lowest setting and 15 minutes. You should watch them after 5 minutes to prevent overcooking. This is not an exact science. You know your oven (microwave, toaster, conventional, or grill) better than anyone else. If you have any suggestions, please write and say how it turned out.
